1) What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic doctors graduate from accredited four-year medical schools, and have been licensed as primary care doctors in the state of Maine since 1996. Naturopathic medicine is a distinct system of primary health care which focuses on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the body and mind.
It employs safe, natural treatment modalities that adhere to six fundamental principles:

  • First, do no harm
  • Prevention is the best cure
  • The healing power of nature
  • Treat the whole person
  • Identify and treat the cause
  • Doctor as teacher

2) What is Chinese Medicine?

Chinese medicine is a system of medicine that has diagnosed, treated, and prevented illness for thousands of years. Based on the observation of nature and our interaction with the environment, Chinese medicine works with the body's inherent healing power to restore balance and maintain optimal health. Treatments include acupuncture, herbal formulas, massage, breathing and exercise (such as qigong), diet, and lifestyle advice.

5) Should I stop current medications?
No. You will not be told to stop or alter any medications that have been prescribed by another doctor. If you have the desire to alter prior medications, speak directly to the prescribing physician about your options. We will work with your physician to find alternative treatments if appropriate.
